That's not really what you mean...

Have you ever been running errands, working, or doing whatever you do, and you see someone you used to know? Well sometimes you are pleasantly surprised to see them, others not so much. If I haven't seen you in a number of years, there are a few reasons we lost touch. A) we were only "friends" because it was convenient at the time. B) one or both of our lives/ connection changed c) I actually forgot you existed and the most common D) I didn't really like you and I was hoping you wouldn't see me just now...

Regardless, now you're forced into a conversation about catching up,that you may or may not have wanted in the first place. Often people try to one-up each other, which can be quite interesting. Here's a list of what people say in these circumstances, and what they actually mean.
Oh I'm in between jobs right now, it's great because I can figure out what I want. - I got fired for stealing office supplies, and no one will hire me, not even McDonalds
O I have a baby, she's the greatest thing that's ever happened to me! - I haven't slept more then 2 hours at a time in 3 months, and I smell like baby spit up
I'm a CEO of a big company, it's great being a boss! - look at how expensive my suit looks, and I am sooo great, and rich.
O I just got married last year, it's great! -he leaves the seat up, and he leaves his stuff everywhere!!!
I was engaged, but we both decided it wasn't gonna work out. -he left me and now I spend all day alone crying to my cat
I'm single at the moment, it's great I feel like I'm finally just me! -it sucks, last night I ate a bag of Cheetos, Facebook stalked my exs, drank a bottle of wine, and cried about being alone. Even my cats don't love me!
My job? Oh it's very interesting! - my job sucks, it's so boring, and I think my coworkers are the dumbest people in the world.
O I'm house hunting at the moment! I want to wait until I find the perfect one! - I live in my parents house, it's great because my mom still cooks me dinner every night, and I don't want to leave the security.

Doesn't everyone experience this? A day in my life!

That's all!

  1. Alycia, that blog post made me laugh so hard! Everything you said is so true about running into old classmate/co-workers etc. Luckily I don't have many awkward run-ins over here in England. But I'm sure I'll be subject to many when I return!
